Routine medical paperwork: Regular prescription refills, medical certificates or clearance certificates. Please contact alternative providers for these needs.

Patient eligibility

Who this service is for

Anyone in Victoria (including visitors) with an urgent health concern that is not life-threatening.

What you need for your video call

Phone, tablet or computer with a working camera
Reliable internet connection
Quiet, private place to talk.

Note: Patients do not need an appointment, GP referral or Medicare card. If a patient prefers to speak in their own language, ask for a free interpreter when you register.

Ambulance Victoria intake criteria

Paramedics are strongly encouraged to refer patients who require a timely medical review, but do not present with high acuity symptoms or conditions that require time critical transport to ED, now or within the next 24 hours. Ensure patients meet clinical intake guidelines by reviewing the Ambulance Victoria Clinical Guidelines.

Inclusion and exclusion criteria for patient referrals

Appropriate patients

Vital signs must be within normal limits

Body aches/pains
Constipation
Coryzal symptoms
Eye discharge
Cough
Early dehydration
Diarrhoea
Earache
Epistaxis (isolated & resolved, not anticoagulated)
Fever in paediatrics
Haemorrhoids
Insect bites
Mastitis
Nausea/vomiting
PR/PV bleeding (mild) including early pregnancy with confirmed intrauterine pregnancy
Rash
Shortness of breath (mild)
Urinary symptoms

Requires consideration prior to referral

Use clinical judgement and/or seek medical advice regarding these patients:

Abdominal pain <60 years
Back pain <60 years
Dizziness <60 years
Headache
Lacerations/abrasions
Leg swelling
Limb injuries
Shortness of breath (moderate)

Inappropriate patients

Alcohol or drug-affected patients
Altered conscious state (GCS <15)
Moderate/high risk chest pain >35 years
High risk mental health patients including self-harm or overdose
Severe pain or patient likely to require opiates, benzodiazepines or other scheduled medications or restricted substances
Severe respiratory illness (e.g. unable to speak in sentences)
Stroke-like symptoms
Trauma including obviously deformed limbs
Refilling scripts and medical certificates
